Vijay’s ‘Appadi podu’ falls into Akshay Kumar’s lap Posted: 04 Jan 2012 08:31 AM PST The rights of the Bollywood version of 'Appadi podu…', a chartbuster song from Vijay starrer Tamil movie Gilli, has changed hands. Actor Sonu Sood, who had bought the rights, has sold it to Akshay Kumar. Bollywood star Akshay Kumar has reportedly bought the rights of 'Appadi podu…' for his forthcoming Hindi movie Naam Hai Boss. It is said that the Khiladi requested Sonu Sood and the audio label to give him the same and managed to get the rights. Reports add that Akshay Kumar, like Sonu Sood, was impressed with the track at the first hearing. Without delaying, the actor decided to acquire the rights to know that it was already been sold to Sonu Sood and the latter had already started working on it. However, Akshay Kumar is yet to finalize the singer and the composer for the Hindi version of 'Appadi podu…'. The original song was sung by Krishna Kumar Kunnath and Anuradha Sriram and the Hindi version.

I’d never put on obscene costumes, says Nisha Agarwal Posted: 04 Jan 2012 08:31 AM PST Nisha Agarwal is the debutant heroine waiting to make waves in Tamil films. As the name amply suggests, Nisha is the younger sibling of established actress Kajal Agarwal, who has been among the leading heroines in both Tamil and Telugu films. Nisha's stature, physics and facial appearance resemble very almost that of Kajal. Nisha would be debuting as Vimal's heroine in the upcoming film Ishtam. Thanks to her elder sibling's popularity, Nisha knows a thing or two about how it feels like being a newcomer in the industry. "I'm very happy to be debuting in Tamil through Ishtam. I'm also doing a couple of Telugu films as well. In fact, I love the professional ethics and work culture followed both in Telugu and Tamil film industries. "Shooting schedules are strictly adhered to as per original plans which are quite appreciable. Only recently, I completed the shooting of one of the Telugu films. The shooting schedule of the other film was halted due to the Telengana struggle; I now come to know that the film has since been abandoned for the time being. I'm not sure when the shooting schedule would resume. "Like Kajal, I'd love to star in films in all languages. Soon, I'd be making my debut in Bollywood as well. Whatever film offers I'm getting, I first discuss it with Kajal and then decide about which ones to take up and which ones to reject. We both criticize each other's work in a constructive manner which helps us to avoid whatever errors we might commit. "Irrespective of the money offered to me, I shall never put on swim-wear in any of my movies. I'd always ensure that the costume(s) I put on doesn't make me and the audiences feel embarrassed," concludes Nisha.

Will 2012 be a busy phase for Ajith? Posted: 04 Jan 2012 08:32 AM PST With Billa 2 being wrapped up, Ajith is now on the elated mood to enter into other sets. He has got two films on the confirmed list – one with Vishnuvardan produced by AM Rathinam and the other from Nagi Reddy group to be directed by the Siruthai Director Siva. In the meantime there are indications that Ajith was approached by two prominent directors of Kollywood – KS Ravikumar and AL Vijay. Both have made meaty roles for Thala in his career span. KSR worked with Ajith for Villain and Varalaru( Godfather). AL Vijay worked with Ajith in Kreedam which produced many good reviews on Ajith. Between these two, Ajith is said to have expressed his preference for Vijay. Hence this project may kick off once the director finished his work with Vikram for Thaandavam. Yet the official confirmation is not publicized from either side. If it happened, then 2012 will become a tight schedule for Thala, which means other producers and directors have to book him well advance.
Nanban comes with a clean chit of censor Posted: 04 Jan 2012 08:32 AM PST Much contrary to speculations Shankar directed Nanban is all set to see the screens on January 12. Many circles predicted that the movie will hit the theatres on Pongal day but it seems themovie will be released a day advance than that of Vettai. To meet the demands from the publicopinion, the movie is certified with U from the censor board. The triology of the three heroes – Vijay, Jeeva and Srikanth – has come off well said some sources close to the unit. The songs are already on fast pick up while expectations soar high on the Ilayathalapathy's humor. It is also revealed that Madhan Karky, the lyricist and son of Vairamuthu has assisted Shankar in delivering the dialogues portion. Since the story revolves around the student affairs of an engineering college, Madan Karky the real college teacher has given some hints on the life style of engineering students. For Vijay this movie is very crucial to take up the mantle recited from Velayutham. However for Shankar, Nanban will be totally new experience as he has not made any remake so far. More over he has not tried with three heroes at a time. Hence he might have taken more care to come out with doodles of good recipe. It is all a matter of ten days and Nanban will meet everyone of us through the screens.

Fwd: [NEW CINE BUZZ] Harry Potter aims for Oscar glory Posted: 04 Jan 2012 08:30 AM PST In the decade since they launched, the Harry Potter films have become the most successful cinema franchise in history. The eight films have turned Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint into global superstars and have spawned countless imitations. However critical acclaim and combined box office receipts of around £5 billion have not brought the one thing that the boy wizard really wants – an Oscar. But now the makers of the Harry Potter films have launched a campaign to have the final instalment recognised at the Academy Awards, ending a 10-year snub in the major awards categories. Despite breaking box office records, the wizarding adventures have been overlooked by the Academy year after year. In one last push to right the perceived wrong Warner Bros, the studio behind the films, is lobbying Academy voters to nominate Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 in a dozen categories including best picture and best director for David Yates, who has directed the last four Harry Potter films. Warner Bros is also hoping to break the spell by lobbying for Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson to be nominated in the best actor and actress categories respectively. The most likely chance of success comes in the best supporting actor category with Alan Rickman's performance as Professor Severus Snape. Radcliffe, who plays Potter, has added his voice to the campaign for Rickman. He said: "I don't think there is going to be another performance from an actor in a supporting role that is so powerful." Hollywood studios spend big money on campaigning during Oscars season. Warner Bros has set up a 'For Your Consideration' website for the final Harry Potter film, which charts the wizard's final victory over the forces of evil. The studio is running special trailers and advertising campaigns in the film's honour. The ballot closes on January 13 and the nominations will be announced on January 24. To date, the Harry Potter films have been nominated for nine Oscars but have failed to win any. The categories for which the films have been nominated include best art direction, best score and best cinematography. While these are all hard-fought categories, they are outside the 'big five' categories that are the true mark of Oscar glory: best picture, best director, best actor, best actress and best screenplay. The films have fared slightly better at UK awards ceremonies. Last year the series was awarded a BAFTA for outstanding contribution to cinema. The award was collected by the books' author JK Rowling. Warner Bros will be hoping that the Harry Potter franchise repeats the Oscars success seen by the Lord of the Rings trilogy last decade. Those films, based on the novels of JRR Tolkien, got off to a slow start at the Academy Awards. The first two films in the trilogy – The Fellowship of the Ring and The Two Towers – won only minor awards at the Oscars. However the third instalment, The Return of the King, swept the board in 2004, winning 11 awards including best picture and best director for Peter Jackson. The statue haul made The Return of the King only the third ever film to win 11 Oscars, along with Titanic and Ben Hur. Despite its campaign, Warner Bros faces some stiff competition at next month's Oscars. The Artist, a silent film backed by mogul Harvey Weinstein, is attracting a loud 'Oscar buzz' in Hollywood, while Woody Allen's Midnight in Paris and The Descendants, starring George Clooney, are also tipped. The best director category is expected to include three of Hollywood's biggest hitters: Martin Scorsese for the film Hugo, Steven Spielberg for War Horse, and Terrence Malick for The Tree of Life.
